COLORADO SPRINGS (October 10, 2019) – The SRI Conference announced today that it will host a panel of retired professional athletes who are now impact investors and philanthropists. Among those scheduled to appear are former National Football League (NFL) running back and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Warrick Dunn and retired National Basketball Association (NBA) player Antonio Davis, who also served as president of the NBA Players Association (NBAPA).
Produced and moderated by Danny Hughes, creator of Athletes Influence and partner of LOHAS Advisors, Dunn and Davis will be joined by fellow athletes Devean George, Sheryl Grant, and Derrick Morgan on the conference’s main stage at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Thursday, November 14, 2019.
Titled The Next Wave of Impact – The Professional Athlete, the session will give panelists the opportunity to share their stories of transition beyond the game, what inspired them to become impact investors and philanthropists, the issues they focus on and why, and the relationships they aim to develop with members of the impact investing community to address pressing societal, economic, and environmental challenges.
Warrick Dunn played five seasons with the Buccaneers, six seasons with the Falcons, and then a final year in Tampa Bay. In December 2009, Dunn purchased a minority ownership position in the Falcons.
Dunn is the head of Warrick Dunn Charities, which includes Homes for the Holidays and three additional programs: Count on Your Future, Sculpt, and Hearts for Community Service Scholarships. Together, the four programs are dedicated to strengthening and transforming communities by combating poverty, hunger, and improving the quality of lives for families. Homes for the Holidays has furnished 169 homes, provided over $800,000 in down-payment assistance, and served over 457 single parents and children.
Antonio Davis played for the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. He also served as president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBAPA) in 2005.
Post-retirement, Mr. Davis enjoyed ongoing roles within the NBAPA supporting player/career development and transition with Off the Court programming, and NBA analyst commentary with NBATV and ESPN. Today, Antonio actively engages underserved markets with business creation assistance, early stage and seed funding, management, logistics and technology support. He recently partnered with Prevail Water Company, chartered to be the largest minority-owned water bottling and distribution company in the country, and dedicated to supporting the water needs of underserved markets.
